Harriet Tubman Free School
The Harriet Tubman Free School is the high school program of the Albany Free School. Built upon the same principles of autonomy, respect, and personal responsibility that have made the Albany Free School so successful with elementary and junior high school aged students over the years, the Harriet Tubman Free School guides students in setting their own learning goals and building the lives they imagine.
The high school program focuses on internships and real world learning. We are currently seeking students, interns, volunteers, and workplace mentors.
"I don't want children to have to spend all of their time in places specially prepared for children, with people specially trained to look after them, no matter how nice those places and people might be. Children need much more than that a society that is open, accessible, visible to all its citizens, young and old, in which every citizen, however young or old, has the right to play an active, serious, and responsible part."
~ John Holt, 1976
